Rehab for Alcoholics in Florida

By: Rhea Rosier, Palm Partners Recovery Center

February 14th, 2012

Being an alcoholic entails so many things that it’s hard to quite clearly in a few concise sentences describe what it means. I will do my best though. Oh, and Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you.

Now back to what it means to be an alcoholic. An alcoholic is in the grips of a progressive, chronic and fatal illness. This person will never be able to drink successfully and if they are able to stop, without a solution, will always drink again. This person suffers from a mental obsession, a physical allergy and a spiritual malady. The spiritual malady is the true problem for the alcoholic. The drinking and drug use was only a symptom of this spiritual malady so therefore the solution that these alcoholics have to find must be a spiritual one. The spiritual malady consists of self-centered fear, fear in its pure form, resentments, anger, and every form of self-pity, manipulation and more. The spiritual malady is essentially that feeling of guilt and shame within an alcoholic, that feeling that the world is coming to an end for no reason at all or maybe even for a reason; its these feelings that essentially cause an alcoholic towards the end, middle, or even beginning of their drinking and drugging career to continue using. They continue to use despite the negative consequences because of the physical allergy and cant stay stopped because of the mental obsession and its all driven by a pain or spiritual malady so deep that most can’t tell you where it radiates from. That’s why there is rehab for alcoholics in Florida. That’s why more importantly there is a solution. No one has to die from this disease and no one has to live one more minute, second or day miserable without hope. There is a way out.

I am supposed to be telling you why alcoholics should be looking for rehab in Florida, more than about the disease. Yet, the disease is why alcoholics need rehab in Florida in the first place. If you can identify with anything I have said in the first paragraph of this blog you probably need help. Well what you truly need is 12 steps, a sponsor and some commitments at a home group. A good place to start though is in treatment in Florida. You may be asking why Florida? Florida is home to the recovery capital of the United States, well technically its Delray Beach, Florida but essentially, alcoholics can find the most amazing recovery in Florida. I have a hard time writing these blogs without telling you what the solution has been for me and countless other alcoholics and addicts. I will tell you that my journey into recovery started with searching specifically for rehabs for alcoholics in Florida. These rehabs for alcoholics in Florida are not what are keeping me sober today though.

Lets be real. Based on what I have mentioned about the spiritual malady, mental obsession, and the physical allergy once I leave rehab for alcoholics in Florida there are not a whole lot of ways to take care of those issues. Rehab for alcoholics is the place every person should begin but you cannot stay in rehab in Florida forever. So what do we do? We find a 12-step program, we get sponsors, we work these steps, we get a home group and when that is taken care of, we carry this message to the next alcoholic who may have just gotten out of rehab, as we once did, because we know it works.

This is what I have found to work for me. I only have 14 months clean but I know what worked for me and it started with a rehab for alcoholics in Florida but then moved on entirely to 12-steps. Those 12-steps are what has allowed me to stay sober once out of rehab in Florida. My journey at a rehab for alcoholics in Florida started at Palm Partners Recovery Center.
