What If I Only Need Detox?

By: Rhea Rosier, Palm Partners Recovery Center

It is my opinion that no one only needs detox if they are going to detox in the first place. Detox is only the beginning of the journey into sobriety. It is essentially just the physical seperation  from you and the alcohol or drugs. While this seperation is absolutely essential it is not a guarantee that you will stay sober for a lifetime. It takes a good bit of therapy and time to get to a point where you will no longer want drugs and alcohol and this intial seperation that only last from 5-10 days just is not long enough.

Although if you only need detox it is possible to go to a treatment center where they have detox and a rehab center available, but only utilize the detox. There are also facilities in the area that are only detox. This is the perfect place to go if you only need detox. If you only need detox that essentially means that you just need some medical help to get through the physical withdrawals from alcohol and drug use. It is unsafe to try and detoxify from any sort of prolonged alcohol and drug use because some of the symptoms of withdrawal can be death depending on what you have been consuming.

If you only need detox it wont be hard to find. There are multiple detox centers in the area that can offer you just what you’re looking for. A place with a bed and a highly trained medical staff. Although I still stick to my original point here and I am speaking from experience. There are very few people who only need detox. Most of us who are using to the point of needing detox probably need something a little more extensive than just detox alone. I know, I did. Detox is just the very tip of the iceberg to start getting well again. Alcoholism and addiction are three fold diseases, consisting of a spiritual, physical and mental problems. This takes time to start to heal and no matter what detox you go to, it can not fix you in a little over a week.

Recovery or stopping the use of drugs and alcohol in order to be restored to health is a long process. Everyday has to be a step in the right direction. While detox can help you start those steps it can not keep you sober for long. I know because I have tried. Yet, like I said before if you only need detox it is available and is covered by insurance. There are also places that will take clients without insurance just for detox also.

If you or someone you know needs detox please call: 877-711-HOPE(4673) or go to www.palmpartners.com
