Many of us are burdened with our past; we let the memory of the past drag us down. We seem to hit the “rewind button” in our memory and replay the wounds from way back when. We will also start with one painful memory, which leads to other unpleasant memories, and so on. And if we are not careful, we can spend most of our time entertaining these negative thoughts, even fantasizing about getting vindication or even vengeance from past hurts.
The trouble is, if we waste time dwelling on the past, the present is wasted as well. And wasting the present is just adding up to a wasted past; and on it goes.
Thinking about the future can be no less burdensome; when the mind ponders possible events years from now, one can become worried and preoccupied with things that have not happened yet and may never happen. We can become so absorbed in the “What Ifs” that we forget about today. To have a better tomorrow is to have a better today.
Your actions today will greatly affect your future. Do not get trapped into wasting your time today by reliving the past or by being anxious about the future; to do so is to waste the opportunity to live in the moment and to improve your tomorrow.
